About Us

On Valentine’s Day 2018, Lori and Ilan Alhadeff lost their 14-year-old daughter Alyssa at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. She was an honor student, a debate champion, and the captain of her soccer team. She should still be here.

Make Our Schools Safe was born from that loss and from the conviction that what happened in Parkland must never happen again. We are a 501(c)(3) national nonprofit working to make every school in America a place where children can learn and grow without fear.

We do this three ways. We fight for Alyssa’s Law, legislation requiring silent panic alarms connected directly to law enforcement which has now passed in 12 states. We fund real safety projects: security infrastructure, Stop the Bleed kits, training, and equipment at schools across the country. And we build the next generation of safety advocates through MOSS Clubs — student-led, school-based clubs that create a lasting culture of safety from the inside out.

Children should thrive in classrooms, not fear for their lives. With your support, we can make that true in every school, in every state.
